Can Studying at a Coffee Shop Boost Productivity?

With so many jobs, classes, and other community activities, we continue to embrace our new work-from-home and online culture. People are having to find new ways to stay productive and on task from the comfort of their own homes and the security of being behind a monitor.

It can be pretty hard to stay focused and on task when working, studying, or even taking classes from home. The temptation of cleaning up a little, making a snack, playing with your dog, or even taking a little snooze is all too real. In fact, studies have shown that people perform these types of tasks better in a controlled work environment than they do at home. This is because you have little choice but to do the work that’s in front of you.

This is especially true for students in online classes or doing homework.

The novelty of doing everything from home in our pajamas has worn off and now it can feel a little repetitive.

For some, they have adjusted and embraced doing everything from home. But for others, they are still struggling to stay focused, motivated, and productive.

So what do you do?

It’s simple. Coffee Shops!

For those who are itching to get out of the house, get dressed, and interact with others, this is the perfect solution to the work-from-home rut you may find yourself in.

Coffee shops have long been popular places for working and studying. But do they actually make you more productive? The general consensus is, yes. In fact, many people find themselves more productive at a coffee shop than they do at home or in a controlled workspace. Let’s take a look at why that may be.

Like we said before, people generally handled mundane tasks better in a controlled environment. However, studies have also shown that people are actually more productive out of the office when doing creative tasks. This likely correlates with the fact that most people feel office environments stifle creativity

Coffee shops are the best of both worlds. They give you the freedom to feel a little more relaxed with your favorite cup of coffee but remove the distractions and temptations of home. The environment is controlled but still inspiring.

From ambient music, fresh aromas, and being surrounded by other people who are working or studying, it all works together to motivate and boost your productivity.

If you are struggling to work from the same corner of your home or room day in and day out. If your bed is calling you for a 2 pm nap before your work is done, it’s time to head to your nearest coffee shop.
